About Psychodynamic Counselling / Therapy

Psychotherapy/Counselling is a unique experience for everyone but starts with sitting together in a private space and talking about whatever feelings and thoughts you wish to bring. I will try to help you look at these from the perspective of the relationships you have in your everyday life, sometimes those from the past and, at times, the relationship we have to each other when we meet. For example, you might wish to talk about a feeling of depression or an inability to engage with the world around you. A psychotherapeutic approach might be to explore the shape of this depression and what purpose it may serve for you and those around you. Over time, a better understanding of the underlying motives and causes of your problem can lead to a greater sense of integration and control in your life and, importantly, to more authentic relationships with others.

Counselling provides an opportunity to explore you thoughts and feelings

My experience has taught me that talking to someone who is trained to listen and respond to your concerns in a particular way, can be helpful. It may not necessarily 'cure' you or change the past, but it can often allow you to move on in your life and can facilitate further positive change. Therapy/Counselling provides an opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings within the safety of a therapeutic relationship, which can in turn help you to process unresolved feelings, gain insight and understanding and can facilitate positive change.

Whatever your reason for making contact, psychotherapy/counselling can help you understand what you are going through and support you as you face difficult thoughts and feelings.

Everyone can find life overwhelming at times, which impact on our sense of wellbeing, our ability to work and achieve and our relationship to ourselves and others. Sometimes these difficulties resolve themselves without the need for outside help but sometimes they persist. Sometimes these difficulties are generated by recent life events such as change, relationship issues, bereavement or job loss. Sometimes they arise from the accumulation of feelings and problems that have occured throughout life that may have remained dormant and unresolved and can begin to be experienced as anxiety, depression, lack of self esteem and motivation or problems with identity, work and relationships.

I provide a safe and confidential space to talk . . .

Sometimes you may not feel you have a specific difficulty, but you may feel a sense of dissatisfaction or that you are stuck in your life or you would like to improve the quality of your relationships and how you deal with life's challenges.

I provide a safe and confidential space in which to talk about and explore what is troubling you so that together we can make sense of your feelings and concerns. Feel free to get in touch.
